The State Duma proposed to introduce annual payments for schoolchildren and students in the new school year.
The corresponding bill was drafted by representatives of the faction “A Just Russia – For the Truth”. The grants can be allocated to “families with children attending regular primary schools, regular basic education and regular secondary basic education courses, as well as full-time secondary and higher education”.
The draft law stipulates that the cost of preparing for the school year currently amounts to more than 20,000 rubles. It is expected that by September 1, 2024, parents of schoolchildren will have to spend at least 23-28 thousand rubles.
In this regard, lawmakers considered it appropriate to pay 25,550 rubles to families with children aged 6 to 18 (up to age 23 if the child has a disability).
For families identified as low-income, it is recommended to pay 38,325 rubles per year, which includes 50% of the average cost of schooling, writes “information».
The document also proposes to provide this grant to families with children aged 18 to 23 who are studying full-time basic vocational education courses in colleges, technical schools and universities in the amount of 12,775 rubles, and to low-income people in the amount of 19,100 rubles.
Just like in the USSR, only cash is allowed
The idea of providing financial assistance to parents of school children seems tempting, but it is hardly feasible. In fact, according to the results of the 2020 census, about 19.4 million households are eligible for subsidies.
“This is an additional budget expenditure of 496 billion rubles,” – Counted Economist Nikita Krichevsky stressed that if the expected payment amount was reduced to 10,000 rubles, the initiative would at least have a certain chance of being approved.
