Ukraine said it had used a domestically-made drone missile weapon system against Russia for the first time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday.
“Today is the first successful combat use of our new weapon, a new type of weapon, the Ukrainian Palyanisiya missile drone,” Zelensky reportedly said in a speech marking the country’s Independence Day. Political News.
The word “Palyanytsia” refers to a type of Ukrainian rustic bread, but it also has symbolic meaning because since the beginning of the war it has been used as a code to distinguish between Ukrainians and Russians due to the different pronunciation of the word.
“This is a new way for us to retaliate against aggressors,” Zelensky said of the weapon.

Officials have long asked Western defense companies to help them produce modern weapons in Ukraine, and firms such as Germany’s Rheinmetall and Norway’s Namo have agreed to do so, producing armored vehicles and ammunition.
