This Thursday, the Take Back the Night march aims to take back the streets and raise awareness about violence against women.

In the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, 224 women were victims of domestic violence in 2022. One in four women said they had experienced sexual violence at least once in their lifetime.

On Thursday evening, the “Take Back the Night” campaign invites people to take part in a collective march against violence against women, aiming to make Luxembourg’s streets safer.

Demonstrators are invited to meet at ING in the Luxembourg City train station area, where there will be several speeches before the march, which will cross the capital to Glacis, where there will be a celebration party with food trucks and a live DJ.

This event is hosted by INGPOST & LUX WMN, as well as Femmes en Détresse and city council representatives. Advance registration is encouraged and participation is free, but other tickets are available.
Earlier this month, on International Women’s Day, Feminist Platform JIF said that although Luxembourg had made progress, there was still a long way to go to ensure gender equality in the Grand Duchy, highlighting inequalities in areas such as maternity and paternity leave.

The association advocates tweaking the tax system to benefit single parents, 80% of whom are women, and says long waiting lists at women’s shelters in Luxembourg put victims of domestic violence at risk of homelessness.
