Tourism is booming in Luxembourg City, with the latest figures from the capital’s tourist office showing a significant increase in visitor numbers and growing interest in historical landmarks such as the Grand Ducal Palace and the Bock Battery.
The Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) recently published its preliminary report for the quarter, highlighting the positive outlook for the attractiveness of the capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Currently, 100,000 people passed by the LCTO offices on Place Guillaume II and an estimated 130,000 people visited the iconic Bock Casemates.
Speaking to RTL, Edgar Janssen, head of marketing at Visit London, explained that this shows a positive development compared to previous years, with office visits up 17%. The report further outlined that most visitors to the capital come from Germany, followed by the Netherlands, France and Belgium.
The Grand Ducal Palace is considered the most popular attraction, with up to 10 guided tours offered daily, and most tickets are regularly sold out. According to LCTO sales director Tanja Bollendorf, nearly 400 guided tours are planned for August.
The Luxembourg Tourism Board currently has 120 guides, all of whom have been working in Luxembourg for at least 10 years since the last training program was held in 2014. According to officials, they also have some guides who have been showing tourists around Luxembourg City for more than 40 years.
Despite the positive outlook, Janssen believes there is still room for improvement. As a result, they have launched new advertising campaigns in and outside Luxembourg to further enhance Luxembourg’s image. However, Janssen stressed that they will still be careful not to compromise the quality of their services due to the increase in tourist numbers.
