Roger’s career has been filled with innovation, with countless nights of weaving sounds that move the body and soul.
If house music is a galaxy, then Roger Sanchez is its brightest star. Hailing from the vibrant streets of Queens, New York, his beats have been the lifeblood of dance floors around the world since the late 80s.
His timeless song “Another Chance” came out in 2001 when I was a 15-year-old fresh off the dance music and dreaming of becoming a DJ. The first time I heard the song, I was completely hooked. Roger seamlessly sampled Toto’s music to create a true classic of house music, blending nostalgic beats with dreamy synths to create an experience that transcended the dance floor. Since then, the song has left a lasting impression on club-goers and is also an iconic song that opened my eyes.
We began our meeting by expressing my disappointment at missing his gig at Glitterbox in Ibiza this weekend. “I had to fly home earlier than expected because my son was unwell,” I explained. “I was really looking forward to his show!” He responded without hesitation, displaying an easy positivity: “Don’t worry… you know, we’ll be back on Sunday!”
Over the next 30 minutes, I had the opportunity to talk with Roger about his journey, side hustle, family life, and how he has mastered honing his craft while creating an emotional connection with his audience.
