RTL Today – “Animals are not Christmas presents”: Trier animal shelter will not allow adoptions until January next year

An animal shelter in Trier suspends animal adoptions during the Christmas season every year, and this year is no exception.

Pets are a popular gift at Christmas every year, but they still require care and consideration. While it’s wonderful to have a new furry friend on Christmas Eve, most families realize after a few weeks that owning a pet requires a lot of time and money.

Unfortunately, once people realize this, these Christmas pets end up in animal shelters in the New Year. As a result, an animal shelter in Trier has decided not to offer adoptions from December 13 to January 3.

“Animals are not Christmas presents,” the shelter wrote in a statement on Facebook explaining the pause. “They don’t belong on a Christmas tree, they don’t belong in holiday stress, and they certainly don’t belong in a new home when the New Year fireworks start going off in a few days.”

Animal shelters suggest that in addition to giving away pets on Christmas Day, you can also contact the animal shelter and give away a membership card.

Of course, anyone who already had an appointment with an animal shelter before the adoption suspension will not be affected by the measure.
