July 12, 2024 (KOSTI) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Friday launched drone strikes against several military targets in the White Nile state in southern Sudan using four unmanned aircraft.

This is the second time that the Rapid Support Forces have launched a drone strike in the White Nile state, which is under siege on three sides.

According to local sources who spoke to Sudan Tribune, the Sudanese army’s air defences shot down an RSF drone that targeted the army’s 18th Division headquarters in Kosti. The attack did not cause damage to the army’s command centre in the state.

The same source also said that two drones targeted the city of Rabak and another drone attempted to attack the Kenana air base. However, the Army’s ground defense system intercepted and shot down the drone near Kenana Village 5.

Sources said the drones used today looked different from those used in previous attacks and were flying louder and faster.

Yesterday (Thursday), an RSF drone attacked the state government headquarters in Gedaref in eastern Sudan as popular resistance forces were celebrating in support of the army.

This is the second time Gedaref has been targeted. On April 9, drone strikes hit the headquarters of the General Intelligence Directorate in Gedaref as well as police and judicial facilities.

Prior to this, the Rapid Security Forces launched a drone attack on the Ramadan iftar activities of the Bara bin Malik Brigade, which supports the army, killing more than 10 people.

Similar drone attacks also took place in Shendi in River Nile State, Merowe in Northern State and Sennar in Sennar State.
