July 2, 2024 (El Fasher) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued its attacks on medical facilities in North Darfur, shelling two hospitals in El Fasher on Tuesday.

This was the ninth such attack since fighting broke out between the army, the Rapid Security Forces and their allies in El Fasher on 10 May. The clashes have involved heavy weapons, including air strikes and artillery shelling.

Darfur regional governor Minni Minawi confirmed in a tweet on X platform that the RSF destroyed a private hospital in El Fasher Grand Market. He said this meant they targeted all hospitals in the region with high-precision artillery that they allegedly brought from the UAE.

Minawi said in a second tweet that less than 40 minutes after the private hospital was attacked, the Rapid Security Forces bombed the Jabal Malla Hospital in El Fasher.

A doctor told Sudan Tribune that the Jabal Marra Medical Center was shelled and the building was severely damaged, but the medical equipment was intact.

The Syrian Emergency Forces’ attacks on medical facilities in El Fasher are seen as an attempt to weaken the health sector. Indiscriminate shelling has destroyed a dialysis center, El Fasher South Hospital, Saudi Hospital and several private medical centers.

Ahmed Jadow, the military spokesman for the Sudan Liberation Movement Transitional Council, told Sudan Tribune that the movement cooperated with the Sudan Liberation Forces Assembly faction led by El Tahir Hajar to ensure the safe arrival of about 500 people from El Fasher to the areas of Tawila, Korma and Kebkabiya.

He noted that most of those fleeing were women, children and the elderly.
