July 9, 2024 (AL-DINDER) – The Al-Dinder Emergency Department in Sudan’s southeastern Sennar state said the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) destroyed a university college, assassinated five civilians and injured dozens of others during attacks on surrounding villages.
By the end of June, the Rapid Support Forces had taken control of Dinder, but Sudanese government forces regained control only to lose it again after fierce fighting, causing most of the city’s residents to flee to their villages and to neighboring Gedaref state in eastern Sudan.
The Dinder Emergency Room, made up of volunteer professionals and activists, issued a statement to Sudan Tribune saying, “The Rapid Security Forces militia killed three civilians in the village of Baida and two dignitaries in the village of Habuya in western Dinder countryside.”
The statement also noted that the paramilitary forces destroyed the veterinary college attached to Sennar University, east of the Dinder River bridge, “and also carried out large-scale looting and pillaging in the villages of Abu Hashim, Umm Dasir, Tukumbari, Baida and Al Bardana.”
Local volunteer groups stressed that the ongoing violent activities of the Rapid Support Forces, including incursions into peaceful villages, intimidation and killing of residents, and forced displacement of remaining residents, clearly demonstrate that this is a war against civilians, not the military.
Notably, paramilitary forces invaded villages in the east, south and west of the city, killing and injuring scores of people.
Sudan’s air force launched an airstrike on Monday morning on the village of Kamrab, which witnesses said was home to dozens of RSF men and their aides.
