August 5, 2024 (Wad Madani) – Residents of a village west of Sennar, Sudan, were forced to flee for the second time after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) gave them 48 hours to leave, witnesses told Sudan Tribune.
Villagers recently returned to Bargowada Huba after being forced to relocate to Sennar six months ago due to fighting between the Rapid Security Forces and the Sudanese army. Despite a brief military operation to regain control of Jazira canton, fighting has escalated since April.
According to witnesses, the RSF committed widespread atrocities in Al Jazirah, including killings, looting, arrests, and forced displacement. The RSF controls much of the state and exploits communications blackouts to conduct operations.
The army has been accused of failing to protect civilians and calls are growing for locals to arm themselves against the rapid security forces.
