Apia, Samoa – August 21, 2024 – This morning Archbishop-elect Father Moses Vittorio Tuohy was honoured during a royal ceremony after taking the oath of faith and fidelity. Creative Alcohol – befits his position as the new Bishop, priest and Catholic teacher in the Diocese of Apia, Samoa.

Parliament adjourned
This morning, in Parliament, the Speaker announced an invitation to MPs to attend the ordination ceremony of the new Archbishop of the Catholic Church. In response to this invitation, Parliament announced that the meetings on Thursday and Friday would be adjourned until next Monday to allow MPs to attend the ordination ceremony.

This morning, Parliament held a heated debate on amendments to the Constitution Bill 2020, the Judiciary Bill 2020 and the Land and Titles Tribunal Bill 2020, all of which were passed in December 2020, three months before the April 2021 general election.

Acknowledging the significance of the appointment of the head of the Catholic Church, Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Matafah said the Church had been praying for the appointment since the death of the late Archbishop Arapati Louis Matliga in April last year.

Archbishop Moses’s ordination ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 22, at the St. Therese of the Childe Pastoral Center in Leauva’a, followed by a cultural performance.
