The opening ceremony was presided over by the Minister of State and Territorial Administration and attended by the Minister of Communications, Digital Economy and Administrative Modernization, Mr. Alhamdou AG ILYENE. The event brought together technical experts and specialists from the three member countries of the Alliance for the Sahel (AES): Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.
In his speech, Minister AG ILYENE, representing his colleagues from Burkina Faso and Niger, said he was honored to speak on behalf of the three Heads of State: Gal Abdourahmane Tiani of Niger, Captain Ibrahim Tral of Burkina Faso, and the current President of the AES, Colonel Assimi Gota. He stressed the importance of this meeting in the context of the current security and political challenges of unprecedented scale.
The seminar is part of the three countries’ enhanced cooperation to overcome the security and political obstacles that have severely affected the region. The Minister recalled that the Sahel-Sahara crisis has lasted for more than a decade, triggering waves of terrorist invasions and violence that have profoundly disrupted local communities and caused major political instability. On behalf of his AES counterparts, he stressed the need to strengthen the joint strength of the three countries to overcome these trials and stressed the critical importance of a strong and consistent communication strategy to support this joint effort.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of State and Government Spokesperson, a move that demonstrated the Malian government’s strong support for this initiative. This support was warmly welcomed by the Minister of Transport, who expressed his deep gratitude for this continued support, which is essential to achieving the goals of AES.
The seminar had a dual mission: on the one hand, to strengthen the resilience of local populations to multiple domestic and external shocks; on the other hand, to counter the disinformation campaigns orchestrated by those whose interests were threatened by the unions of the three countries. Speaking on behalf of their counterparts from Burkina Faso and Niger, the Minister stressed the importance of targeted and effective communication, not only to reassure local populations but also to raise awareness in the international community of the justice of the cause defended by the African Union.
In order to address the challenges posed by the intensive use of social networks and the spread of misinformation, the workshop also focused on the development of certified digital platforms. These platforms, including social networks and online television, will play an important role in the dissemination of reliable and timely information, thus helping to strengthen the credibility of AES on the international stage.
Minister AG ILYENE concluded his speech by sincerely thanking the public and private media for their unwavering support, as well as the Minister of State for his continued support. He said that this seminar was an important step for the Alliance for the Sahel States in consolidating their common goals.
The seminar was held in an atmosphere of optimism, with the hope that the work carried out during these two days will make a significant contribution to the common cause of AES member countries.
