President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday signed a decree enacting a law that gives insured persons the right to receive medical care for “pain management.”
Pain management is a branch of medicine that brings together different specialties, from neurology, rheumatology, orthopedics, neurosurgery to radiology and medical rehabilitation. The law adopted by Parliament in early June defines pain management medical services as a whole set of medical services for the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients with acute or chronic pain of all ages, children or adults, with the aim of improving their symptoms and quality of life by controlling or relieving pain. The right to medical services for pain management is therefore included among the rights of persons insured by social health insurance, along with the right to medical services for the cure of illness, prevention of complications and rehabilitation.
“Pain treatment involves a whole range of treatments” “When we talk about pain treatment, we mean chronic pain, which, in most cases, is very thoroughly researched. On the one hand, it involves multidisciplinary medical teams, doctors of different specialties, who are looking for the best treatment solution. On the other hand, pain treatment involves a range of treatments, many of which are not billed by state insurance companies. We are talking about costs, some of which are high, even very high and unaffordable for patients. I mean, you don’t just do a survey once and, that’s it, your pain is over. This therapy is long-lasting”, explains Radu Gănescu, president of the Association of Patients with Chronic Diseases, for Adevărul.
In conclusion, the patient must know that he can undergo any type of counseling or medical intervention and that he will not suffer physically from the procedure he undergoes. This will also ensure a better psychological state.
