Rokia Traor: Are we going to leave it there?

Heading to Italy, Rogia Traoré joins the Wolf’s Lair
Our compatriot, no less an ambassador of Malian culture, has been languishing in Swiss dungeons for some time, unjustly treated for not having a heavy passport. His arrest is as painful as the guilty silence of our authorities.

Our great singer Rokia Traor has been in a Swiss prison since last June due to family reasons. What are the authorities doing or working towards his release? Why not even a statement of support?

Malian singer Rokia Traor was arrested in Italy last June following her conviction in Belgium. In addition to her successful music career, Rokia Traor is also known for her support for refugees. In 2015, she became a UN ambassador for refugees.

Above all, she is a national icon who must be protected. Therefore, she seems to be alone and abandoned to her fate by our authorities. However, Rokia Traor promotes Malian culture throughout the world. The least we can do for her in these difficult times is to let her know that the Malian state stands behind her and gives her all its support.

Clearly she is more of a victim of her ethnicity. For sure if she was from a country that doesn’t let itself do this, things would have played out differently. We need to activate our diplomatic system to support our Logia Terao!
