Addressing a packed rally at Chisitu Primary School playground on Friday, the DPP Mulanje Central MP candidate, Rhoda Gadama Misomali, vowed to make the constituency a constituency of excellence.
“I will promote irrigation agriculture in the Thanguzi, Namajirinji, Migombe and Ngaliya rivers to ensure food security in the region.”
On youth empowerment, she pledged to establish vocational and technical training centres to provide young people with independent technical skills.
“Education will always be at the forefront of my mind. I will ensure that every child has access to school, regardless of their financial situation,” she promised.
Gadama Misomali called on voters to vote for the PDP presidential candidate, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, and herself as MP to promote development.
The head of the group, Lobeni, called on Gadama Misomali to solve the famine problem in the area, saying:
“We are fighting hunger; please help us. We need someone who can bring development to our region.”
At the rally, graduates from the constituency also engaged in a heated debate on the topic “Should the government make vocational education mandatory in secondary schools?”
The debate was hosted by students from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) and showcased the passion of young people for education and development.
While PDP officials pledged their support for Mutharika and Gadama, the rally also featured live performances by Joe Guaraldi, Jibo Pearson and comedians Mada and Linda, urging everyone to vote for Gadama.
Guaraldi, who calls himself a die-hard supporter of the PDP and has “PDP DNA”, called on the people to vote for Mutharika and Gadama.
“If you want development, elect Professor Mutharika as president and Rada Gadama as a member of parliament,” she said.
Gadama Misomali, a native of Sitolo village in central Mulanje, has proposed five pillars for her campaign: skills development, education for all, economic independence, food security, road network and infrastructure development.
“I understand the needs of my constituents and am committed to meeting those needs.”
Malawi is scheduled to hold tripartite elections next year, where voters will choose a new president, district councillors and members of parliament.
