The Design Office “Application of European Technologies and Services (AETS)” organized a workshop on Thursday, June 20, 2024 in Kaya, in the North-Central Region, to validate the Summary of the Preliminary Project Study for the Development of Roads in the Kaya Commune. The aim of this meeting was to present two new full studies to the Kaya Special Delegation to facilitate the search for funding for the work phase.
The preliminary project summary (APS) studies submitted for validation involve the construction of roads to bring economic growth and employment opportunities to the town of Kaya. APS 3 focuses on the development of 10.3 kilometers of dirt roads in the western periphery of Kaya commune. APS4 focuses on the development of 11 kilometers of dirt roads in the eastern periphery of the municipality. A technical assistance has been put in place to lead the animation, coordination, consulting support, monitoring and reporting of project management. It consists of AEST, SES and AGEIM-IC Design Office.

The meeting was thus able to present two APS reports (3 and 4) to the Special Delegation of the Town of Kaya in order to validate them while collecting amendments and concerns. It should be noted that several steps need to be taken before the preparation of these reports. In fact, Bawa S. Sama, a civil engineer from the AETS Design Office, stated that we organized consultations with public authorities, especially the Chairman of the Special Delegation and the Regional Infrastructure Agency, to collect their opinions during the route determination phase. . “We are satisfied with the progress of the two studies. Overall, we worked in good conditions and with the approval of local residents. Therefore, we can say that the studies are progressing well,” assured Engineer Bawa S. Sama.

The president of the Special Delegation of the Municipality of Kaya, Solange Kiéma/Minougou, said that the development of the identified routes will make it possible to connect the surrounding areas with the city center. “We welcome this project with great joy and satisfaction. Because those who know the commune of Kaya know that in terms of mobility, the situation is not great. These communities are sometimes disconnected from the city center. These developed roads will facilitate mobility and mobility within the municipality,” said the president of the Special Delegation.

The Governor of the Centre-North Region, Blaise Ouédraogo, confirmed before the start of the discussions that before the study phase can be carried out, it will be necessary to identify and prioritize the infrastructure projects for the city of Caia, and to discuss them with the Special Delegation and representatives of the Regional Technical Directorate in charge of infrastructure, urban planning and transport. After the study report has been validated in this phase, it will now be a question of finding funding to carry out this phase of work. “I have no doubt that a frank exchange will allow us to develop amendments and related comments to improve the quality of the report that has been submitted to our framework,” declared the Governor.

As a reminder, the road development project in Kaya commune is an initiative of the Government of Burkina Faso and funded by the European Union as part of the Stabilization Support Program for the Ouagadougou-Kaya-Douri axis (OKDD), within its “Social and Economic Strengthening” section.
