Libreville, Tuesday, June 25, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The electricity produced by the Tchimbélé-Kinguelé dam, which accounts for more than 50% of the electricity consumed in Libreville, has very low values at the end of the rainy season, further limiting the groups working on the development of the plant.
Furthermore, the low water supply in the Mbé Valley, combined with a significant increase in peak energy demand (+13% on average) and operational risks, has led to an increased use of hydroelectric power, which will inevitably lead to a decrease in the water volume of the Tchimbélé reservoir.
This effect of climate change, if it continues, will significantly reduce the generation capacity. To cope with this situation, SEEG, which provided the information, has taken a series of measures aimed at limiting the extent of the inconvenience caused. Among the most important, we note the imminent commissioning of a 150 MW floating power plant. This solution, currently being implemented, will contribute to the stability of the network, thus guaranteeing an acceptable quality of service.
The SEEG agencies mobilized for this purpose are doing and will do their utmost to limit the inconvenience this situation may cause to their customers until more favorable conditions return due to the increase in water supplies from the Tchimbélé reservoir. SEEG reassures the Crisis Committee, which is responsible for monitoring the development of the situation and deciding on the actions to be taken.
