ALBANY, N.Y. — Robert F. Kennedy Jr. faced hours of intense questioning Tuesday. The case against him for lying Find out about his residency in New York for the state’s presidential nomination.

The independent presidential candidate was testifying in a lawsuit filed by the Clear Choices political action committee, which is aligned with President Biden, which sought to overturn Kennedy’s Empire State nomination application on the grounds that he lied about his residence when he actually lived in California.

Keith Corbett, a lawyer for the super PAC, presented a July 2 affidavit in Albany Supreme Court claiming Kennedy’s driver’s license was registered to his residence in the New York City suburb of Katonah. But state motor vehicle records did not show the license was registered to that address until the next day, Corbett claimed.

“Are you familiar with the term ‘perjury’?” Corbett asked, as if trying to portray the discrepancy as conclusive evidence.

“Of course,” replied Kennedy, 70, who was dressed in a dark blue suit, light blue dress shirt and dark blue skinny tie.

He tried to downplay the apparent contradiction, saying what he swore in the affidavit was “what I believed at the time.”

“That’s the first time I’ve heard of a mistake,” he said. “I was wrong for 24 hours.”

Corbett continued to aggressively pressure Kennedy, prompting Judge Christina Reba to uphold an objection to the attorney’s “entanglement.”

Corbett also reviewed records from the New York Board of Elections. Show Kennedy’s residence He lived in his sister, Kerry Kennedy’s, Bedford Corners home in Westchester County when he voted in 2016, 2018 and 2020 — even though the deed shows his siblings sold the house in 2015.

Kennedy said he moved 13 times between 2016 and 2020 in the Bedford Point and Mount Kisco areas, and because the voting locations were the same, he didn’t think he needed to update his residence each time.

“I don’t think it’s illegal,” Kennedy said.

But when Corbett asked, “Are you familiar with the term ‘voter fraud’?” he implied that it was.

“I was familiar with the term. I had no idea that what I did was voter fraud,” Kennedy responded.

Kennedy has a house in Los Angeles where he lives with his wife, Cheryl Hines, who starred in HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.

But his attorneys argued in court papers that Kennedy had only temporarily moved his family to the West Coast for his wife’s career and that he “is and always has been a New Yorker.”

Democrats are trying to remove Kennedy from the election to eliminate the possibility that he could undermine the election results for Donald Trump.

If Kennedy is proven to reside in California, he and his running mate Nicole Shanahan will lose California’s 54 electoral votes.

A constitutional quirk prevents two presidential candidates from the same state from winning that state’s electoral votes.

A court trial will be decided by a judge rather than a jury.

The candidate is scheduled to continue testifying Wednesday morning and has been instructed by the judge not to speak about the case until the trial is concluded.
