Greek Prime Minister’s Deputy Minister and Government Spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said on Tuesday that resolving the Cyprus issue is Greece’s national priority.
Speaking at the Cyprus News Agency Press Awards ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, Marinakis stressed the systematic efforts coordinated with the Republic to create conditions for a fair, sustainable, effective and mutually acceptable solution within the framework of the UN Security Council resolutions.
Marinakis also stressed Greece’s commitment to strengthening its national and international influence, “learning from Cyprus’ experience in developing non-state universities, strengthening support for students, and enhancing its international position on issues such as migration and other major challenges.”
Marinakis concluded his speech by noting that the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus would be approaching. He reiterated “Greece’s firm position on the Cyprus issue” and called for a solution that respects Cyprus’ EU membership, the elimination of the occupation forces and the abolition of the outdated safeguards system.
He firmly rejected any two-state solution, advocating in all international forums that Athens and Nicosia work together to resolve the division in Nicosia, Europe’s last divided capital.
“We are united and we move forward together. It is a great honor to be here, especially in 2024, among such great friends and people to look up to. Thank you so much,” Marinakis concluded.
