Due to the worsening flood situation, more than 350,000 people in the area were without electricity. The flood-affected people suffered greatly due to various communication disruptions.

According to reports, most areas of Parashuram, Fulgazi and Chagalnaya upazilas in the district were without power since last Monday (August 19) evening as the lines were damaged by floods. As the flood situation worsened, parts of the three upazilas, including Sonagazi and Daganbhunya upazilas, were completely disconnected from Tuesday. Meanwhile, due to heavy rains, Feni town was waterlogged and power was cut since noon.

Abdur Rahman, a resident of Satkuchia area in Parshuram, said that all houses were submerged in floodwaters. Due to the strong current, rescue work could not be carried out properly. Among them, they suffered more due to the lack of electricity and mobile network. The flood situation is already very serious.

Abul Hasem, another resident of the central Dhanikunda area, said: “I live outside the district for work. The last time I spoke to my family was in the morning. The water inside the house was waist-deep. I have not been able to contact anyone since then. I spent a lot of time worrying about the situation at home, the children, the elderly.”

In this regard, Md. Howladar, general manager of Feni Palli Vidyut Samiti, said. Fazlur Rahman told Dhaka Post that more than 300,000 of the 400,000 users in the area are without electricity. Due to heavy rains, power lines were damaged in many places. As of now (6 pm), power connection is normal in some areas of Sonagazi and Daganbhoona upazilas in the district.

“Around 70% of our customers are without electricity,” Alamgir Hossain, a divisional engineer at Feni Power Development Board, told the Dhaka Post. “Connections are unlikely to be restored until the floodwaters recede. The situation is getting worse as time goes by.”

Earlier, at noon, the army began to use speedboats to rescue people trapped in the flood-affected areas. Meanwhile, hundreds of volunteers from BGB members and regional volunteer families are carrying out a day-long rescue operation and providing food aid.
