Republicans on US vice presidential candidates: Worst choice

Republicans in the US House of Representatives have expressed concerns over Donald Trump’s decision to appoint Senator JD Vance as his running mate. According to The Hill, party colleagues believe that the choice is unsuitable and could even hurt his chances of winning the upcoming November election.

one Main Reasons for criticism include Vance’s foreign policy positions, his inexperience and his inability to attract new voters outside of Trump’s base to the Republican coalition.

“He was the worst possible choice. It was so bad I didn’t even think it was possible. Anti-Ukrainian and mostly populist. He did nothing to contribute to Trump’s victory. He energized the people who loved Trump,” said one Republican.

While Vance’s supporters include hard-line conservatives who favor a populist “America First” policy, many veterans and moderate Republicans who favor a traditional Reagan-style conservative foreign policy have openly questioned the choice.

Another Republican added: “If you ask a lot of people in this building, nine times out of 10 they would say this is the wrong choice and he’s the only one who could do serious harm.”

Some Republicans have warned that if Trump fails to defeat Democrat Kamala Harris in November, it will depend on his choice of vice presidential running mate. The party’s divisions over Vance continue to deepen, which could affect the outcome of the election.
