Montreal was hit with record rainfall on Friday as a storm system continued to move through eastern Canada.
Data from Environment Canada showed Montreal received 157 millimetres of rain on Friday, breaking the previous record for rainfall in a single day set in November 1996.
The precipitation was caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Debbie and a low pressure system that formed over the Great Lakes.
Other communities that received significant rainfall included Gatineau, where 70 to 100 millimetres of rain were reported.
Ottawa had received about 76 millimetres of rain by Friday evening. Toronto was expected to receive between 25 and 50 millimetres.
The remnants of the storm are expected to bring 40 to 60 millimetres of rainfall to New Brunswick by Saturday morning.
