Philip Clement has revealed that Ridvan Yilmaz will be rested for up to six weeks as Rangers prepare for Saturday’s Premier League Sports Cup last-16 clash against St Johnstone.
The Turkish left-back was stretchered off the pitch in the 2-0 defeat by Dynamo Kyiv in a Champions League qualifier at Hampden Park on Tuesday night with what appeared to be a thigh injury.
Yilmaz, who has suffered a number of injuries since signing from Besiktas in the summer of 2022, is receiving treatment along with midfielder Nicolas Raskin and striker Oscar Cortes.
The Rangers boss has lined up summer signing Jeffert to take over at left-back, along with 21-year-old academy graduate Robbie Fraser.
“Rizwan will be out, I don’t want to go into too many details but it will be around four to six weeks, something like that,” Clement said.
“Scott Wright has a lesser problem and he may not be able to play and Leon Balogun is still a question mark.
“I don’t think we have the quality to do that (bring in another left-back) and we have to focus all our attention on the position we need for the rest of the season.”
“Now another full-back has been brought in, along with Ridwan and Jeft, and we have a third defender in Robbie Fraser who has made good progress over the last few months.
“So now is the time for him to take his chance and he has done positive things in pre-season.
“Giving opportunities to players fresh out of the academy is also part of the story.”
