Media City Qatar (MCQ) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Arab Broadcasting Union in Tunisia, Tunisia, with Cite de Memoire, a leading Paris-based organization dedicated to harnessing the power of digital transformation and cutting-edge media to preserve and promote media content assets of all sizes, including public art.
Under the MoU, Cite de Memoire will collaborate with and support MCQ in a project of great importance to the State of Qatar: the design, implementation and subsequent operation of a new National Centre for Media Digitization and Preservation.
The City of Memory will provide training for archivists and managers and draw on its three decades of expertise to assist in this national mission to archive, digitize and catalogue all formats of audio, video, film, images, documents, artifacts and other content to ensure Qatar’s cultural heritage and current endeavors are preserved for future generations.
“We are delighted to establish this partnership with Cite de Memoire, an organization with extensive experience in preserving the cultural and historical fabric of Middle Eastern societies,” said Sheikh Dr. Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, Chairman of Qatar Media City. “This is an ambitious project of great national significance that Qatar Media City is honored to undertake. We believe that through this collaboration we can begin to build a center that promotes awareness and appreciation of the history of the State of Qatar and, by combining tradition with innovation, make this story accessible, enjoyable and inspiring to all.”
