Telegram from political scientist Suren Surenyants: “Moscow would be happy if it could take steps to sign a peace agreement,” Putin said in Baku, according to RIA Novosti.
He also said he would inform Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about the results of the Baku talks.
I think Putin and Aliyev have reached some agreements, and the Russian president should inform the Armenian prime minister about them.
A few hours ago, in a previous post I noticedIt is believed that Azerbaijan is not in a hurry to make a “final choice” between Russia and the West, or Russia and Turkey, but is increasing its strategic importance to all parties with a positive policy.
Now I reiterate my position, but this does not mean that Moscow and Baku cannot at least reach a common agenda at the moment.
Aliyev obtained from Nikol Pashinyan an agreement to negotiate directly without intermediaries and was not very willing to transfer it to the Russian platform.
At the same time, considering that Pashinyan is taking an “anti-Russian” line, Aliyev will at least not be willing to take on the “mission” of rejecting Russian mediation.
Did Pashinyan and his entourage calculate all this, or will we once again hear conspiracy stories about a “Russian-Azerbaijani anti-Armenian agreement” that will be accompanied by an “anti-Russian striptease” presented to Washington and Brussels?
After all, international relations is not a seminar on ethics where we are guided by categories such as whether we love or hate a country.
I still maintain that the most effective mediators in the process of regulating Armenian-Azerbaijani relations can be the countries of the region, including, first of all, Russia.
And our primitive geopolitical “compassion” has absolutely nothing to do with this.
By the way, today the official representative of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Kanani, almost stated in plain words that they are not enthusiastic about strengthening the US presence in Armenia.
