Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in the Kremlin on Wednesday, and Li signed an investment cooperation agreement in the morning as part of an official visit to Russia.

“Our countries have developed large-scale joint programs in the economic and humanitarian fields that we hope will continue for many years,” Putin said at the start of the meeting.

The Russian leader, who visited China last May, assured that bilateral trade relations were developing “successfully”.

Accompanied by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Putin recalled that October 2 will mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and invited Li Keqiang to attend the Eastern Economic Forum to be held in Vladivostok, the capital of Russia, in September, in the Far East of Russia.

Li Keqiang stressed that this was his first visit abroad since taking office as the head of the State Council, and recalled that the Russian economy had grown steadily “over the past two years,” coinciding with the war in Ukraine, and had been “very successful” under Putin’s guidance.

“We are willing to fully implement the highest-level agreements reached with you and continuously expand mutually beneficial multilateral cooperation,” the Chinese premier pledged.

Li Keqiang and Russian President Mikhail Mishustin signed an investment cooperation plan and two memorandums of understanding on Wednesday in the fields of transportation and chemicals following talks in Moscow.

The Chinese premier stressed that in the face of “changes in the international situation”, China is willing to move forward with Russia “more firmly” along the line determined by the leaders of the two countries, for the benefit of the two peoples and also “for justice in the whole world”.
