“Unfortunately, frost hit 21 regions of Russia, causing crop losses of slightly more than 1%, about 1.2%,” he said, handing the floor to Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut.
The President asked whether the country would suffer a crop failure in certain commodities, such as apples. The head of the Agriculture Ministry said that if necessary, the ministry might ask exporters to increase the supply of these fruits.
She also said a crop insurance system would help improve the situation; insurers have already started working with agricultural producers affected by the frost to pay off their crops.
