On Sunday afternoon, members of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Lisbon Public Security Agency arrested in Costa da Caparica a 37-year-old man who on Saturday robbed a 25-year-old businessman who was about to deposit 30,000 euros, from a store in a bank branch in Olivas, Lisbon. The victim was punched in the face and left without the money.

According to police sources, the victim was surprised by the stretching method used by the thief: the bag on his shoulder was pulled. The victim held on to the bag tightly and resisted, and the thief punched and kicked him and pretended to have a gun on his waist. This made the victim drop the bag containing 30,000 euros in the store to the ground.

The victim immediately followed the thief’s trail and, with the help of another citizen, saw the getaway car.

With this information, members of the Criminal Investigation Division are able to identify the suspect.

The video was intercepted at 7:15 pm on Sunday evening on Avenida Alfonso de Albuquerque, in Costa Caparica, Almada. He was driving a Mercedes worth 20,000 euros and had only 1,000 euros in cash.

The man, who was already serving time in prison for violent crimes, resisted arrest. He also did not want to cooperate with police and did not say where he had stored the remaining money. The victim and witnesses identified him.
