Tegucigalpa –Tomás Ramírez, deputy from the Salvadoran Party of Honduras (PSH), said there were several priority issues that urgently needed to be discussed in the National Congress.
These issues include the Law on Effective Cooperation, which is essential for the establishment of the International Commission against Impunity in Honduras (CICIH), and the reform of the new Penal Code.
Ramirez also stressed the importance of reviewing the upcoming power contract and addendum, as well as the decisions made during the recent meeting of the National Defense Council, which require congressional approval but have not yet been submitted.
“As a caucus, we requested to meet because the holidays are over and we want the president to call us soon,” Ramirez said.
He added that he had spoken with Congress President Luis Redondo about several items that needed to be reviewed and for comments.
So far, the congressional board, to which Ramirez belongs, has not received notification from President Redondo about the meeting. “We spoke to the board, but we haven’t heard anything from him so far. All the representatives have to wait for any call,” Ramirez explained, insisting that it is the president of Congress who sets the agenda and makes the calls.
Ramirez wants the Congressional Chair to convene the board to prepare an agenda and then begin the necessary meetings to address these pressing issues.pound
