MANILA, Philippines — Cedric Barefield is showing why he’s a highly-rated prospect, and Blackwater coach Jeff Cariaso has noticed.

“You see the talent he has, you see the skills he has, but now he just needs to understand his teammates better, understand the system better, understand how he likes to play,” Cariaso said after Blackwater’s tough loss to the San Miguel Beer Team on Sunday.

“You can see it’s there. More time and experience will really iron it out.”
Bellfield scored 16 points for Bosing against the Brewers, including two 3-pointers, and added five assists.
The 27-year-old guard has emerged as a favorite for Rookie of the Year, averaging 16.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists through three games.

Although there is still a lot of work to be done at Bellfield, Cariaso is excited for the Filipino-American to contribute to Blackwater’s rebuilding.
“We are very happy with Ceder. He has a good attitude, is cheerful and easy to communicate with. He works hard, so now he just needs to adapt his game to the others and vice versa.”
“He’ll only get better if we play more games.
