The Private Sector Commission (PSC) and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry said they are still actively addressing concerns among local businesses about unfair competition from Chinese companies and plan to meet with local regulators and Beijing’s ambassador soon.

“From the chamber’s perspective, we should be engaging with the Chinese embassy, the ambassador and her team to voice some of our concerns and more importantly advocate for greater compliance by Chinese companies,” Kester Huston, president of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, told Stabroek News last week.

“Equally, it is important that our regulators, like the Bureau of Standards and the GRA, monitor and enforce… when things are imported, and certainly from an operational point of view, they make sure that things are compliant. We want a level playing field. We are engaging with them. We have started the engagement process and will continue to do so…” he added.
