Education Minister Priya Manickchand today officially broke ground on a new $386 million academic building for Presidency College.

The construction contract has been awarded to Jaspal Mohabir of Mohabir Construction Company and is expected to be completed within 12 months, a ministry release said.

The new building will be a modern two-storey structure designed to improve the teaching and learning environment. The ground floor will house nine advanced classrooms, a health building and an administrative office, while the upper floors will house another eleven classrooms and a comprehensive library. Modern science laboratories will be integrated in the new building to enhance the college’s science courses.

Manik Chand, who presided over the groundbreaking ceremony, stressed the importance of investing in education and infrastructure, noting that the new school building will not only meet the urgent need for modern educational facilities but will also pave the way for advancement in teaching and learning in the future.
