New Delhi: India remembered Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary on Sunday (January 30) with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying wreaths to the Father of the Nation at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in New Delhi.
“Remembering Bapu on his Punya Tithi. Let us work together to further promote his noble ideals,” Modi tweeted.
“Today is Remembrance Day and we honour all those who bravely defended our country. Their service and bravery will always be remembered,” he said.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also visited the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in Delhi to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary.
When I despair, I remember that throughout history, the path of truth and love has always triumphed. History has had tyrants and murderers who seemed invincible for a time but always fell in the end. Always remember this,” Gandhi wrote beside the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial, along with his photo.
Besides Modi and Kovind, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also paid tributes to the leader.
Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948. His death anniversary is celebrated as Martyrs’ Day.
An interfaith prayer was held at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Museum and Gandhi’s favourite religious songs were sung to mark the 74th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation.
Gun salutes were fired at the memorial hall while students of the school and people from all walks of life gathered to pay tribute to Bapu.
