The UCV University Council, Rector Víctor Rago and Secretary Corina Aristimuño expressed concern about the security forces’ crackdown on demonstrators opposing the results of the presidential election and asked the CNE to disclose the voting records as soon as possible.
In a statement signed by the University Council, the vote was reserved by the representative of the Ministry of Education, Lenin Sosa, who highlighted the exemplary civic day on Sunday and the large turnout at the election ballot.
“The overwhelming majority of voters have once again clearly demonstrated the democratic mission and the promise of voting as the preeminent instrument of popular sovereignty,” the text was signed X, formerly Twitter.
In this idea, he stressed that CNE results must “enjoy the greatest degree of transparency and the strictest compliance with regulatory provisions.”
“Access to all the records of the different political organizations involved in the elections, the audits requested by qualified actors, citizen verification and everything that helps to instill confidence in Venezuelan society in the quality of the electoral process are essential to dispel the reservations expressed and give validity to the review and the results, because nothing is secondary to strengthening democracy, guaranteeing popular sovereignty and preserving the legitimacy of the Republic’s institutions.
The CU stressed that it was too early to declare that Maduro “has anticipated the necessary inspections.”
