The crystal-clear waters that make Formentera famous all over the world have a secret: their color is largely due to the presence of endless Posidonia marine meadows on the seafloor, real natural purifiers. The island’s waters contain the world’s longest-lived (over 100,000 years old) and largest Posidonia, with a total length of 7 kilometers. These figures meant that in 1999 this long row was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Posidonia – not an algae, but a plant with roots, stems and leaves – blooms in autumn and in spring produces floating fruits called “sea olives”.

It forms an important meadow for marine life, protects the coast from erosion and is home to many animal and plant organisms, which find protection and food here. Precisely because of its role in biodiversity, it is a treasure that deserves to be preserved, monitored and cared for. Paul & Shark has chosen it as the core of a project launched in Formentera together with the local Vellmarì Association, which for more than 30 years has been dedicated to the study and conservation of natural and marine ecosystems, with a focus on Posidonia. The brand will allow Vellmarì to plant 700 specimens, reinforcing their presence and protecting a treasure that is not only essential for biodiversity, but is also the engine of the island’s beauty.

The brand decided to launch a local support campaign in parallel with the custom-made project of the Juvia restaurant, located on the northern coast of the island. Custom-made in perfect harmony with the surroundings, from the site layout to the seating in the large outdoor area overlooking the sea, the menu and the wine list, and all the details that accompany the guests in an Italian and Spanish gastronomic experience, it is also a different and almost intimate way of approaching the island. Created by a group of Italian entrepreneurs in the heart of Es Pujols, the restaurant is an integrated meeting point, a ritual stop for a day of relaxation on the beach, from lunch to dinner, in addition to the aperitifs served in the external chiringuito, against the backdrop of the setting sun.

The creative concept of the venue is inspired by the history and character of the island, with details of light wood furniture dominated by light blue and blue, and most of it made of environmentally friendly recycled materials, a sign of upcycling, which is increasingly present in the brand’s projects. The just opened “Juvia by Paul & Shark” offers a calendar of events throughout the summer.
