On Friday, August 16, the Ministry of Interior paid tribute to several officers of the Belize Police Service for their years of service to the police and the country.

“We are here to mark an important milestone for police officers who have served the people of Belize for decades. Today, we celebrate the sleepless nights and long fulfilling days of those officers who selflessly serve from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.,” said Interior Minister Kareem Musa.

Among the officers honored were those with 10 to 30 years of service, including Felicia Davis, who has 10 years of service, Juan Chuc, who has 15 years of service, and ACP Hilberto Romero, who has been a police officer for 30 years.

“This is no small milestone. Contribution to the country, the government and the people is one of the greatest contributions one can make as a citizen. You have sacrificed and dedicated yourself to your professional and personal development; you have made us proud,” Minister Moussa said.

“It’s been a tough 10, 15 years; we know it’s required tremendous personal and family sacrifice; along the way some of us have lost loved ones, had our families torn apart, our lifestyles disrupted because of this job,” said Deputy Police Chief Bart Jones.

“… A lot of what we do goes unrecognized. We often hear about police officers being in the news for the wrong reasons; but most of us do things for the right reasons, and I want to give you a big round of applause,” he added.
