Police arrest two more people in Mukuru case

Two new arrests have rocked the Nairobi Mukuru murder case, revealing a more complex conspiracy.

On Tuesday, Kenyan police arrested Amos Momani Mogusu outside a bar in Nairobi. The man has links to the case as he was in possession of a mobile phone belonging to one of the victims, Roselyn Akoth. After Mogusu’s arrest, investigators located Mukuru resident Moses Ogembo, in whose home 154 mobile phones were found. Ogembo allegedly purchased several of these devices from Collins Jumaishi Kalusha, the main suspect in this disturbing case.

At Moses Ogunbo, investigators discovered factors that could lead to clues in the investigation. Items seized included a pillowcase, a T-shirt, and various blood-stained tools such as hammers, pliers, knives, and scissors. These discoveries deepened suspicions about this network of alleged murderers and painted a picture of a more complex organization than initially thought.

Confessing under torture?

The main suspect, Collins Jumaishi Kalusha, changed his story, saying his initial confession was obtained under torture. In the Makadara court, his lawyers argued that the confessions were illegal, but the judge extended his pretrial detention for 28 days anyway, stressing the seriousness of the charges against him.

The discovery of ten bodies in Kwari has sparked much speculation. Government spokesman Isaac Mwaura has strongly denied the notion that the killings are linked to recent political protests. According to him, the deaths are the result of femicide and not politically motivated assassinations, a statement aimed at calming the suspicions and concerns of civil society.
