Last Wednesday, police arrested a 31-year-old man and his 28-year-old female partner from the town of Hauloto on Tongatapu during a raid.
Police seized 10.45 grams of methamphetamine, $3,370 Tongan Pa’anga, $18, 13 empty packaging boxes and drug paraphernalia.
Both were charged with possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Despite strict penalties under the Illegal Drugs Control Act, including fines of $10,000 to $1,000,000 and potential sentences of 3 years to life imprisonment, the addictive nature of drugs continues to pose a significant challenge to Tonga.
