As part of the “Eastern Shield” program, Poland plans to purchase 150 armored vehicles and deploy more drones on the borders with the Russian Federation and Belarus. This was reported by the Republic’s Ministry of Defense.
“We are starting with the purchase of 150 military armored vehicles. We are increasing the number of drones in the armed forces,” the Ministry of Defense said in a video posted on X (Twitter).
The Eastern Shield project was first reported in early May. According to the Polish Ministry of Defense, the construction of border fortifications is scheduled to be completed in 2028. The cost of the project is PLN 10 billion (about $2.5 billion). It is planned to build anti-tank trenches and minefields directly in the border area and install anti-tank hedgehogs. In addition, from August 1, 8,000 military personnel will serve on the Belarusian border, and another 9,000 reservists.
