Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured all kinds of punishment for the murderer of BUET student Abrar Fahad, saying, “I don’t know who is Chhatra League or what, a criminal is a criminal.” The Prime Minister raised the question, why such atrocities occurred? Why did such a horrific act happen? Action will be taken against them. Any higher punishment will be punished. He said these words at a press conference held in Ganobhaban yesterday afternoon. Although the press conference was about the Prime Minister’s recent visit to India and the United States, Abrar answered several questions about the murder case, casinos and the anti-corruption campaign. Responding to questions about the murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad, the Prime Minister said, a 21-year-old boy. He was killed. He was beaten to death. How inhumane! I have seen the autopsy report. All the injuries are internal injuries. The Prime Minister said, “If someone commits a crime, I don’t know which political party he belongs to, what he does, a criminal is a criminal. When this happened in Buet, after hearing about it in the morning, I immediately ordered the police to collect evidence, collect CCTV footage. We started the activity before the students got off the bus.
I don’t know who or what the Chhatra League is. Criminals are criminals and offenders will be tried. The Prime Minister said, “I have said that all those involved in this incident should be arrested.” However, after the police retrieved the CCTV footage, they did not allow it to be brought out. A question came to my mind, why? Were there any murderers wondering if the footage was made public, would their identities be revealed? They later brought the footage and provided a copy to the authorities. The Prime Minister also said, what is the movement for? There will be a trial. I understand the pain of the mother who lost her child and the father who lost his child. A boy from a simple family, a smart boy. Why was he killed? He said, in 2001, our activists were beaten to death with hammers. Killed in a way that outsiders cannot understand. How many murders have been committed so far in the history of Bangladesh. Chhatra Dal killed Soni while bidding in Buet. How many of our activists have been tortured in that Buet. Have we gotten justice from anyone? Since coming to power, I have tried to prevent such incidents in all educational institutions. At the start of the press conference, the Prime Minister gave details of his two visits in a written statement. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Awami League Secretary General Obaidul Quader, Foreign Minister Dr. Shahriar Alam and Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen.
