SANTO DOMINGO – The Central Committee of the opposition Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) has accepted the proposal of its president, Danilo Medina, to move forward the date of the organization’s 10th Congress to adopt “the necessary political decisions, not the current ones”, and has prepared the opposition working structure required by the state,

The congress will be held in June this year, rather than October, and the congress’s organizing committee is responsible for managing the congress’s name, determining its motto and developing the statutes governing the congress. PLD press release.

The decision in this regard was adopted at the swearing-in meeting of the members of the Organizing Committee of the 10th Congress of the Party Central Committee held on Sunday, June 9.

The meeting lasted from 11 a.m. to about 3 p.m., and 787 of the 1,281 members of the party’s leading body attended, accounting for 61.4% of the internal debate, understanding and agreeing with the proposals put forward to them.

It was drawn up by 42 of the 45 members of the Political Commission, with a central team composed of Danilo Medina, president of the PLD; Charles Mariotti, secretary general; Abel Martínez, former presidential candidate of the Republic; Themistocles Montas and Juan Ariel Jiménez, vice presidents of the People’s Democratic Union; and Jaime David Fernández Mirabal and Margarita Cedeño, former vice presidents of the Republic.

Medina proposed that the debate be guided by Cristina Lizardo, coordinator of the organizing committee of the 10th regular session, which was unanimously accepted.

The timetable of activities has also been approved, which will begin with a preparatory phase scheduled to open on June 30 (the day of the creation of the Peledeist Brotherhood), a diagnostic and evaluation of past electoral processes, and a plenary session to finalize it in September, after the completion of the election phase for the new authorities.

New members of the organizing committee

Attending the Central Committee election Aura Toribio, Elías Cornelio and Diego Aquino Acosta of the Central Committee will be members of the congress organizing committee.

The Political Committee selected Cristina Lizardo as coordinator; Jaime David Fernández Mirabal and Johnny Pujols declined, and Maribel Acosta was chosen. Members include Tommy Galán, the Secretary of Electoral Affairs, and the Mayobanex Escoto organization, according to the legal mandate.

The Central Committee approved the election of Daniel Cruz, president of the Intermediate Committee of the National District; Leidy Quezada, director of the Confucius Institute of Santiago; and Pernil Espinal of San Cristobal.

Before the meeting officially began, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the late leaders Julian Elsevif and Justo Guzmán, and then the discussion of the topics began after the agenda was approved.
