MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines got off to a bad start in the 2024 Southeast Asian V-League, losing to Vietnam 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21 on Friday night in Vinh Phuc, Vietnam.
After being tied with one game difference, the Vietnamese team found the right rhythm, widened the gap with the Philippines and won two games in a row.
In the fourth game, Jade Guzman scored a spike and the Philippines led 20-19, giving Alas a chance to overtake the score.
However, Vietnam quickly fought back and took a crucial 23-21 lead with a 4-1 blitzkrieg.

Dell Palomata and Alyssa Solomon made consecutive mistakes that ultimately led to the defeat of the Alaska team in the first match of the Vietnam leg of the tournament.
Solomon led the Philippines’ offense with 20 points, while Eya Laure, Thea Garget and Vani Gandler added 13, 12 and 12 points, respectively, but to no avail.
Thi Bich Thuyen Nguyen added 27 points for Vietnam. She was the only player in double figures.
The Philippine spikers will be expected to bounce back strongly when they take on Thailand on Saturday at 4 p.m.
