Pezeshkian made the remarks on Sunday in Tehran when he met with a group of representatives from different nationalities and religions, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency.
He said his campaign focused on various issues, including justice for ethnic minorities and religious groups, but said the slogan was not designed to garner votes.
He elaborated: “We are at the beginning of this path, and in order to succeed on this path, it is necessary to have more interaction and dialogue, and I will strive to have more detailed and serious talks with representatives of all ethnic and religious groups in the country.”
The president-elect also stressed that he believes it is impossible to build a prosperous nation through differences and confrontation, clarifying: “If we have differences and cannot reconcile, both Shia and Sunni will be affected, and these differences will lead to public alienation from religion, so the solution to achieve our national goals is to strengthen unity, cohesion and tolerance.”
Pezeshkyan said he would hold detailed talks with all major ethnic and religious groups as soon as possible. He said there is a Turkish proverb: “The power of the people united is like the power of a flood. If we don’t unite, we can’t solve the problem.”
