Young politician, Thyolo South West MP Chimwemwe Mazabuka Chipungu is seeking to retain the post of National Organising Secretary of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), a position he has held for a decade.

The DPP will hold its 2024 electoral conference at the COMESA Hall in Blantyre over the weekend with more than 2,000 delegates in attendance as the battle for positions between the main opposition party and the former ruling DPP is underway.

Chipungu, a former deputy agriculture minister and principal secretary for safe motherhood, faces Blantyre Southeast legislator Samir Suleiman, chairman of the parliamentary committee on agriculture.

In an interview, Chipungu shared his new assurances once delegates authorise him to continue as the national organising secretary.

“Experience is the best teacher. Having fought in 2014, 2019 and 2020 elections, I have all the expertise to win.

“I want to help foster loyalty within the party and not be part of those who are trying to sabotage the winning process by selling out the party to the highest bidder,” he said.

Chipungu’s political career was one of promise, brilliance and splendor.

In addition, he was appointed to represent the President of Malawi at the United Nations General Assembly in New York in June 2015, where he delivered a speech on the demographic dividend on behalf of the President.

He was delegated as the President of OAFLA Malawi to represent the First Lady of the Republic of Malawi at the Princess Nick Cancer Symposium at the African Union Summits in June 2015, June 2016 and August 2016 in Ethiopia.
