The “Patuá” restaurant in Lisbon, which serves Macanese cuisine, has closed due to a rent increase. The owners announced the news on social media.
“Dear diners. It is with great sadness that Patuá closes permanently. We want to thank you for every visit, for the friends you brought, for the little moments of life you shared with us, for the affection you gave us and for making Patuá happen with us. As we always say, “We survived Covid-19, but we survived real estate speculation”” and it is understandable.
In a 2021 interview with HM, Francisco Rodrigues and Daniela Silvestre spoke about the secrets of this space and how they hope to contribute to the preservation of Macanese cuisine. Francisco Rodrigues, who was born into a Macanese family but has never lived in Macau, offers his customers flavors that are exotic to some but well-known to others. Rua Ilha de São Tomé offers traditional minchi, but also curried okra or makai cod, among others.
