Nellie (Pajhwok): Residents of Pato district in the central Daikondi province said they have been facing serious problems due to the lack of telecommunication services.

Ehsanullah, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok Afghan News that more than 90 percent of the population in the area do not have access to telecommunication services.

He added that the Pato district had been one of the most insecure areas in the past, and therefore lacked public services.

He said some influential people in Biri, Kahool, Bermani and other areas had earlier requested the government to start a telecom network to resolve the issue.

“In this technological age, unfortunately, our people still live a primitive life and this is a big problem for people,” said Issanullah.

“It’s very difficult for people in our area to climb the mountain because our network is so weak that we can’t make calls properly.”

Abdul Hakim Hosseini, another resident of Patto district, said they had to travel to the mountains and hills far from their homes to make phone calls and access the internet.

He added: “We don’t have a telecommunications network here and we can’t go anywhere else because we are too busy. When I have free time, I go to the mountains and call my children in Iran.”

He added that in the age of technology, they can’t even make phone calls, which is a big problem.

He urged the government to take the launch of the telecommunication network in Pato district seriously.

However, officials of the provincial telecommunication department said that the work of launching the telecommunication network in Pato district is underway and residents of the area will soon be able to use telecommunication services.

Telecommunications department head Niamatullah Jidzada told Pajhwok that most residents of Patto district will have access to telecommunication networks in the near future.

He added that Afghanistan Telecom will use three antennas of the Salam Telecom network located in Barmani, Kahor and villages between Tamzan and Patto from the budget of the Ministry of Communications and Technology.

He added that 80 percent of residents in Patto district who do not have access to telecommunication services will be provided with telecommunication services.
