The Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, Michael Usi, has stressed the importance of Chaplaincy in the realization of Vision Malawi 2063, stressing that it is a key factor in changing mindsets. The Vice President stated this at the launch of the Commission on Chaplaincy (COCHAM) Stakeholders Meeting held at the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on Tuesday, August 6. The theme of this year’s meeting was “Chaplaincy as a tool to achieve Vision Malawi 2063”.

Vice President Usi said that in order to achieve Vision 2063 of Malawi, significant strategic efforts must be invested to promote the change in mindset necessary for social and economic development. He stressed that the role of priests is vital in this process as it embodies divine goodness and values.
“Last week, I addressed HR professionals at their annual conference in Mangochi on the theme: Promoting Excellence in HR Practices. Coincidentally, I told them that achieving excellence in HR starts with a change in mindset. Upholding integrity, avoiding corruption, and personal commitment to work all start with a change in mindset,” the Vice President said.
He expressed his pleasure in continuing to focus on a mindset shift, a concept dear to the late Vice President Saulos Chilima. “This is a concept dear to my predecessor, the late Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima. He encouraged all of us to embrace a mindset shift, believing that it would automatically reduce many of the problems facing our country,” Usi said.
The Vice President added that Malawi needs a mindset shift and institutional integrity in the fields of health, academia and security. “We need the power of mindsets to shape our actions and decisions. As pastors, you play an important national role in promoting a positive mindset shift in our society.”
The first Pastors Stakeholders Conference was jointly organized by the National Planning Commission of Malawi and World Vision. The event featured speeches by pastors from various institutions in Malawi, including a speech by the Director of the National Planning Commission (NPC), Thomas Chataghalala Munthali. The Vice President was also awarded a distinguished honorary award.
