Perikatan Nasional is yet to decide which party will defend the Ngili state seat in Kelantan, while leaders of both PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) want their respective parties to contest the by-election.
(New Standard Time) – Gua Musang Parti Pribumi Bersatu chairman Azman Ahmad has called on Bersatu to make way for PAS to reclaim the seat won by former Bersatu member Mohd Azizi Mohd Naim.
But the Malay party’s information chief Datuk Razali Idris insisted his party will contest the seat.
Aziz is no longer a member of Bersatu as he announced his support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
This set off a chain of events that led to the Nenggiri seat in Gua Musang being vacated, paving the way for a by-election.
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim played down Azman’s appeal to Bersatu, saying it was his “personal opinion”.
“However, PAS will heed (Azman’s call).
“The senior leadership of the Nationalist Party has not yet made a decision on the matter,” the Kubang Kilian MP told reporters. New Straits Times.
On Sunday, Free Malaysia Today reported that Azman had expressed his concern that Bersatu candidates, if elected, might switch sides like Aziz did.
“We are focusing on the Sungai Bakap by-election.
“Therefore, PN has not yet held a meeting on the Nigiri by-election,” Tuan Ibrahim said.
Meanwhile, Razali said Bersatu should contest the seat.
“Everyone can make a statement but it is the Perikatan Nasional chairman’s committee that has the final say on who will contest for the state seats,” he said.
Razali said Bersatu had submitted a list of three possible candidates to the PN top leadership for the Nigiri by-election.
“This is what the national parties do when they choose their candidates,” he said.
Meanwhile, PAS information director Ahmad Fadliza Ali said Azman’s statement reflected the public’s sentiment.
“This is the view of grassroots Islamist party members in Niengiri. However, I am sure the senior leadership will discuss the matter,” he said.
He challenged Aziz to run for re-election.
“He has great qualities and the reason why he won the (Nenggiri) seat was largely because of his character. Even if he cannot run for PN or Pakatan Harapan-BN, he can run as an independent candidate,” he said.
The Election Commission recently fixed August 3 as the nomination day for the Nenggiri by-election and August 17 as the voting day.
