Parsifal or The Romance of the Holy Grail is the “magnum opus” of the troubadour and pioneer of chivalric legends, Chrétien de Troyes, whose entire work is an extensive narrative of the Arthurian cycle, the so-called English problem, which this 12th-century French poet expounds on the direct influence of the song of gestures, but gives it more elegance in the exploration of love, which will lead to courtly love. He begins the narrative of the Holy Grail with a loving exposition that few have practiced so far.

– Parsifal is associated with the prophecy of redemption announced by the wizard Merlin, an inefficient, beautiful, brave man who does not understand the reality around him, coexists between various adventures, not knowing their causes and origins, but having a precious key, purity, and therefore is called the Immaculate Knight. His chance encounter with the Fisher King will lead to the confirmation of his prophecy: he hears the call of two people on board the boat, helps them in their transition, goes to the castle where the King’s wounds have not yet healed, and after a rite of passage, he asks nothing: he goes to the court of King Arthur, intending to return to the castle of Corbenic to finally inquire about the strange miracle of the time – which many people seek – but he does not do it and he is the only one at the time. the one who sees the cup of the Holy Grail. Only by asking the source of the wound can the King be healed, in this Arthurian cycle he is the one who turns the Holy Grail, and in the Christian metaphor we see him still in the image of Christ and his fishermen apostles. Chrétien’s unfinished Troyes narrative will be remembered in the unforgettable pun “pêcher/pécheur”.

– It is obvious that all these characters already give a sense of the foggy land of Brittany before the Christian mythology spread, we are in the middle of the Celtic kingdom, the voice of the forest tells us that the desert, though more sublime, cannot hide grievances, no vegetables will speak words that no one understands, just as one can never understand the seventy-two names of God, but there are cool shadows that hide those who flee from the persecution of lead, that place where Merlin draws the circle, is just another land that also receives the sun. Parsifal is the least cunning of the knights, and perhaps that is why he has the indispensable ingredient to find what everyone is looking for.
