Caroline Marks of the United States and Cauli Waste of France are the 2024 Olympic surfing champions.
Max, 22, narrowly missed out on bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but won the women’s title in French Polynesia.
The surfing competition was held in Tahiti, 9,800 miles from Paris, where Vast was born and raised.
Tahiti was chosen for its legendary Teahupo’o waves, which Waster, also 22, first surfed at age eight.
In the final, his best two-stroke total score was 17.67 points, a commanding victory over Australia’s Jack Robinson (7.83 points).
Waster defeated Alonso Correa of Peru in the semifinals, while Robinson defeated Gabriel Medina of Brazil.
